The Battle for Your Life: The Armor of God – Part 13

Life in victory!

Do you live it?

I pray that you do.

However, I have met a lot of Christians who have not even heard that a life in victory through Jesus the Christ is possible.

I know, I was one of them.

Life in Victory?

How many Christian exemplify a life in victory through the Messiah?

or

  • Are they still wallowing in repeated profession of sin, never truly accepting forgiveness?
  • Are they living fear-filled lives, afraid of an inevitable future catastrophe?
  • Are they working to live in victory by their “flesh” [See NOTE] and not the Spirit?
  • Are they feeling crushed and overcome by the cares, sorrows, tribulations of everyday life?

Unfortunately, I haven’t met too many spiritually mature, victorious Christians. I sincerely hope you have.

That’s why Discipleship is my passion.

I know I need it so much.

Of course, I don’t live in perfect victory. I, too, have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

But,

  • I am making headway against the recurrent sins of my flesh. I know I am being transformed by the Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

Life in Victory!

57a but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory                                                                          1 Corinthians 15:57a NAS

Yes, we can live in victory!

The Son of YeHoVaH, Yeshua, the Messiah, lives a resurrected life of victory over death, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The power for the resurrection of Jesus was the power of the Holy Spirit of God.

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.                                                       Romans 8:11 NAS

Therefore, we who are His can live a new life of victory over sin, even while in the flesh, in our body.

57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.                                                                       1 Corinthians 15:57 NAS

A Life of Victory – Faith, Word, Spirit

A life of Victory is based on Faith that God is God and He is faithful, the revelation and authority of the Bible, and the power of the Holy-Spirit-Who-lives-within each believer.

A Life of Victory is Based on Faith

  • Faith that Jesus is Who He says He is: The Son of God

4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?                                                         1 John 5:4,5 NAS

  • Faith that Yeshua will do what He says He will do

20b and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”                                                       Matthew 28:20 NAS

A Life of Victory is Based on the Word – the Bible

  • The Word, the Word of God, the Word from God

As Messiah followers, we are to spend time in the Word: reading and studying the Bible.

14b I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.                                                         1 John 2:14 NAS

As discussed previously, in The Battle for Your Life – Part 10, the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is both a weapon of defense against the devil, as well as a weapon of offense to fight against him.

The Battle for Your Life: The Armor of God – Part 10

The Truth of the Word – the Holy Bible

31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”                                                        John 8:31, 32 NAS

Victory from the Word

We know we have victory through Christ because in the Bible, the Word of God, Yeshua says we do.

33b “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”                                        John 16:33 NAS

Know the Truth

We know we have victory through Christ because in the Bible, the Word of God, Jesus says He is Truth.

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.                                                       John 14:6 NAS

Q: How does the Truth change us?

A: We are transformed by the Spirit of Truth, God the Holy Spirit.

Spirit of Truth: God the Holy Spirit.

It is only through the in-dwelling God the Spirit that we can live a victorious life.

Through the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, He gives each believer guidance and discernment. He leads each follower to insight, understanding, wisdom (and dare I say, revelation?).

13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.                                                 John 16:13 NAS

Following the still, small, voice of God-in-you will lead to spiritual transformation and a life in victory.

Yes, the Spirit does the heavy work.

But, we must do our part.

Letting the Spirit do His Part

The work of the Spirit:

26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.                                        John 14:26 NAS

Doing Our Part

The work of the believer:

25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. 26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28 He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.                                               Ephesians 4:17-32 NAS

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you…                                                            1 Peter 5:6,7 NAS

23 This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.                                        1 John 3:23 NAS

[I know, I know. We are not saved by works (Romans 3:28 NAS). But, we are saved for works (Ephesians 2:10 NAS).]

You can do it!

By God, you can do it!

By God the Holy Spirit, you can live in victory!

Put on and affirm wearing the Armor of God.

Faith and the Word are part of the armor.

Remember,

A life of victory is a life based on Faith and the Word …

… and is lived in the Spirit.

Blessings to you,

ps  Update

Of course, after I write of my life in victory, I have a week I definitely don’t live in victory, lol.

So at church, I asked for prayer to get me going, to get me obeying what God has told me to do.

Almost before I had inarticulately expressed my need, one of the people in the prayer group immediately said, “You don’t need prayer for that. I just got a word from God for you: ‘Just do it.’”

Well, I was a little taken aback. But we went on with the prayer requests and prayers.

Later, it came to me.

“Just do it.”

It’s the tagline of Nike, Inc., maker of athletic footwear.

Yes, Nike.

Named after Nike, the Greek goddess of Victory!

Nothing like a kick in the rear from your daddy!

NOTE:    What is the “flesh”?

sárks4561 properly, flesh (“carnal”), merely of human origin or empowerment.

It’s ok to doubt, if you check it out!

Be a Berean!

10The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.                   Acts 17:10, 11 ESV
